Game-a-Week
Six weeks, six prototype games — one small playable game each week, built for rapid experimentation rather than polish. Run by Burwood Library, 2026.
What is it?
Game-a-Week is an intensive program where participants create six prototype games in six weeks. The aim is to get comfortable with rapid prototyping: working quickly to build a small playable game that proves or disproves a design idea.
Drawing on the spirit of game jams, each week brings a new thematic, aesthetic, or mechanical constraint — time limits, black and white, one-button input, and so on. This iteration is adapted from the course concept originally developed by Douglas Wilson and Bennett Foddy.
What to expect
- Experiment
- Try lots of little ideas and push yourself to explore different approaches to game making. The focus is on creation and discovery, not perfection.
- Play
- Each meet-up starts by playing each other's games — a chance to try cool new things made by your local community. Drop in and out any time over the six weeks.
- Connect
- Share your weird games with like-minded people and grow a local community of practice.
